The KARMA 5mm offers a perfect balance between comfort and stability: thick enough to protect the joints, with a latex backing that ensures maximum grip and zero slipping. Its pink Life shade, obtained from Madder roots, symbolises vitality and passion. This natural dye, manjistha, is recognised for its soothing and detoxifying properties on the skin.

  • Made from 100% GOTS-certified organic cotton
  • Coated with an anti-slip treatment for safe practice
  • Durable and long-lasting design for extended use
  • Designed and validated by yoga professionals

Materials

100% organic cotton, GOTS-certified from the farm to the finished cloth.

Colour from Ayurvedic plants: indigo, madder, sappan wood, myrobolan, neem and turmeric. No synthetic pigment at any stage.

A natural grip finish on the underside. No PVC, no TPE, no foam core, no plastic grip layer.

How it is made

Yarn spun, dyed in a pot with whole plants, dried in shade, then handwoven on a traditional loom in southern India by families who have woven cloth for generations.

Designed in France, where every colourway is drawn and specified before a thread is dyed.

Care

After practice, shake it out and air it in shade.

Hand wash, or machine wash cold on a gentle cycle with a mild detergent. Dry flat. Avoid hot water, bleach and harsh detergents.

Keep it out of long direct sun: plant colour holds in shade and fades in a window.

Certifications

GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certified organic cotton, covering the fibre, the mill and the labour conditions of the people in it.

Mahola is a member of 1% for the Planet: one percent of every sale funds reforestation and habitat restoration.

The atelier

Woven, not molded

Most mats are extruded: a sheet of PVC or foam pressed to a thickness and cut. A Mahola mat is made the other way round. Yarn is spun, dyed in a pot, dried in shade, then passed through a handloom by people who have woven cloth their whole working lives.

Questions & answers

How does a cotton mat grip?

A dry cotton mat grips differently from a rubber one, and better as you go. The weave takes up moisture rather than letting it sit on the surface. Many practitioners mist the hand and foot areas lightly before starting.

How do I wash it?

Hand wash, or machine wash cold on a gentle cycle with a mild detergent. Dry flat. Avoid hot water, bleach and harsh detergents. They take the depth out of plant color faster than anything else.

Will the color fade?

Ayurvedic dye holds beautifully in shade and fades in a window. Keep it out of long direct sun, and expect two mats of the same name, a season apart, not to match exactly. The dye lot, the water and the weather it dried in all show up in the cloth.

How does it age?

It softens. Instead of flaking or delaminating, a well-kept mat settles with use, and at the end of a long life it is cotton fiber, which composts.
